What is Kratom?

Kratom is an herbal product that comes from the leaves of an evergreen tree (Mitragyna speciosa) grown in Southeast Asia. M. speciosa is indigenous to Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Papua New Guinea, where it has been used in traditional medicines since at least the nineteenth century. The leaves are typically prepared by being washed, dried and ground to a fine powder. Read more below to dive deeper.

Can you tell me more about Kratom?

When discussing kratom and how it works, we have to avoid saying anything that makes a specific claim about the effects of kratom. This means that we cannot say that kratom treats any kind of disease. This type of claim could present us with legal risks with the FDA and could prevent our ability to serve our customers which is our primary goal.

The legal world of health claims is difficult to navigate and we opt as a company to err on the side of caution to avoid service disruption to our customers. When we discuss any effects of kratom, we solely focus on anecdotal experiences and traditional use-cases that have been well recorded over centuries in the plant’s native habitat.

Ok but what are health claims?

A health claim is a claim regulated by the FDA stating that a specific substance (food, supplement, etc.) can treat a disease or specific health condition. When a statement contains both of these components (a substance and a disease), it is legally considered a health claim.
